After centuries, the unusual looking female costume of Azores was called "capote-e-capelo". This costume consisted of a large round hooded cloak that covered the female figure. The “capelo”, or large hood, was held by a reinforcement that added shape and concealed it, which was very convenient for going out, but also for certain cases where the woman's face was almost covered.
