When we translate Vinho verde literally from portuguese, it means green wine but in a reality it’s a young wine which exists in white, rose and red variants. Vinho Verde is light and fresh wine which is nicely sparkling but officially it can’t belong to a group of sparkling wines because during manufacturing is used pressure of CO2 lower than one bar. Due to lower alcohol content (8,5 – 11%) it is perfect for refreshment even during a day. Vinho verde is unique in a world, it differs from other wines by its lightness, freshness and both scent and taste of fruity and floral tones. A region of Vinho verde which is situated in a region of northwestern Portugal is one of the oldest and largest wine region in the world.

One of typical “green wines“ is Lagosta Vinho Verde, which combines aroma of green apples, pears and flowers and also has the highest level of CO2 that is allowed for this kind of wines. Considering its unique and distinctive characteristics it can seem to be difficult to find suitable meals which go well with this wine. In general it matches well with lighter and balanced meals such as for instance salads and white meat. It’s also perfect together with sushi, seafood and fish and because Lagosta Vinho Verde is a typical Portuguese wine, it’s no surprise that it nicely fits to traditional Portuguese cuisine whether we talk about o octopus with rice, francesinha, sardines or cod. Vinho verde is for its freshness very popular in summer time, it shall be served in thinner variant of white wine glasses and in a temperature of 6 – 8°C.
